Busy-ness is either a symptom, a warning, or a serious disease. Never a healthy state.

Busyness could be a cancer. It has nothing to do with business even if it’s just one letter different. Busyness as a default state is a disease of inefficiency. The good news is that it could be just a symptom, a warning. And in this case, you can do something about it. Probably all of us know about this symptom, would recognise it, would exhibit more or less frequently.

Busy-ness is not good for business. Actually people incredibly busy, don’t have time for business.

Busy-ness is a lack of control, a form of surrender to alien forces: forces manipulated by others, forces from the processes and system of the organizations, forces from the tribal rituals of meetings, and one-one-ones, and reviews, and presentations to somebody who needs to present to somebody else.

I am convinced that there is an inverse correlation between busy-ness and good business.

The casualties of busy-ness are time for reflection, critical thinking, sound judgement and, small detail, living a life.

Busy-ness is not the same as being busy. Busy-ness is a state. As I said, it could be just high temperature or could be a permanent disease.

Curtailing busy-ness means protecting time and declaring no-fly-zones to frenzy activity, or even any activity. Paradoxically, curtailing busy-ness may make you very busy on the days you have stopped those no-fly-zones and work hard. But being busy is healthy, whilst busy-ness is always a dysfunction.

If you are not too busy, have some time to reflect on this.
