Stable culture is cultural sedimentation. It is like having a calcified boiler

I don’t know anything about boilers. Only that they are prone to take sabbaticals and stop delivering. In many cases I have been told, not very convincingly I must say, that the culprit is the deposit of calcium. The sediment. Which is perfect to sell me the missing filter, how is that you don’t have one.

Maybe company cultures are like boilers. There is nothing wrong with the electrics, or the size, or the tubes. It’s the sediment. Those things that have calcified inside. Things such as complacency, slowness, passing the monkey, change-is-great-you-go-first,  and other legacy unwritten rules that limit the productivity.

I have always said that in preaching a ‘sustainable culture’, be careful what you ask for, you might get it. Is sustainable means sedimentation and sedimentation is like calcification, you have a boiler problem.

Calcified boilers, I am told, are difficult to repair.

Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and buy a new one.
