Henry Ford is quoted to have said ‘why is it every time I ask for a pair of hands, they come with a brain attached?
The modern version is ‘I don’t need creativity, the last thing I need, just people doing the stuff’. Sure! There are repetitive and mechanistic jobs that need to be done in a repetitive and mechanistic way. You don’t want people reinventing the wheel. However, you should seriously consider a robot. It’s much better, no health insurance, no holidays, no team building, perfect employee engagement scores.
In the kind of economy we have, and we are going towards, it’s going to be impossible to distinguish between the brain and the hands. They are going to come attached to each other all the time. The old dichotomy ‘Strategy’ and ‘Execution’ will be more and more a semantic one. Brains and hands won’t be separate. The distinction between the thinkers and the doers will be gone. So, be careful what you ask for, you might get more than what you expected.
