Some organizations want agility, entrepreneurship, great innovation and superb customer centrism. But they are operating with structures, processes and behaviours that are simply unsuitable for that.
It is literally the equivalent of wanting high computational capacity, state of the art graphs systems, and super-fast processing capability, but running on Windows 95. Sorry, you can’t have it.
There are often leadership structures (overgrown top down), over-inclusive processes (excessive team and meeting structures) and vaguely described behaviours (yes, we all want accountability and openness, but what are these exactly without and operational definition) that are incompatible with the modern organization.
Our OD/HR/L&D toolkits are often dated to tackle the challenges of today.
They are perfect to win yesterday’s battles.
