Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, has a famous and well quoted line: ‘It’s just Day one’ (of the company). And more than 20 years later, he has repeated the ‘It’s still day one’.
He recently said “In fact, I believe that the alarm clock hasn’t even gone off yet,” he said. “We’re still asleep in our beds, far from having even pressed the snooze button.”
Like all catch phrases it has led to many interpretations. But the line embraces the spirit of constant renewal, of possibilities of reinvention. It’s a powerful line no matter what.
If this is not ‘continuous beginning ‘ philosophically speaking, I don’t know what it is.
As I reflect on this line, on my days of vacation, I wish we all have a ‘Day One’ ethos in the way we do things. It’s full of possibilities and positive outlook, something we often forget in our Day Two and Three and Four…
My best friend and business partner, unaware of Bezos line, says very often about our consulting business: we have just only started. Agree, it’s our 15 year Day One.
