Congratulations to The New York Times for their headline announcing the new editor of The Guardian newspaper (UK/US/Global). We are very glad to know that The Guardian has picked a woman after all. We here in the UK were very worried about the possibility of an alien, or a pig, or even a robot, since it’s all so digital, you know? What a relief it’s a ‘woman’!
Katharine Viner, who has been the editor in the US for a while, will be thrilled to know that her gender has made it finally to the headlines of such a prestigious competitor.
I am curious. Was ‘a man’ the one who wrote the headline?
Have you heard of the one ‘man bites dog’? That is news. Perhaps you think both are of equal transcendental importance, a statistically anomaly worth pointing out.
But, anyway, again, congratulations for your fantastic emotional and social skills, for letting us know that you can distinguish a man from a woman and, also, for letting us know that you, at the NYT, consider ‘the woman thing’ such a fantastic piece of enlightened news.
Just in case you may think a bit (in the unlikely scenario that you understand why I am writing this), you’ll find The Guardian’s editors email just by Google-ing it (which is a gender neutral thing, so you don’t have to worry) and you could consider sending an email to ‘That Woman’ (‘Katharine, my name is Katharine’, she says) and say something nice.
Finally, and forgive me for my interference, you may want to take a look at your calendar and check the year. You may be surprised what you find
